WPC is about accelerating our growth together. Today, Steve Ballmer opened the conference talking about our transformation to a devices-and-services company and the four trends underpinning our transformation – cloud, mobility, big data and enterprise social.
Cloud is an area where we have seen tremendous traction together with our partners. Earlier this year, we announced that Office 365 is on a $1 billion revenue run rate, and with more than 250,000 customers using Windows Azure, and with thousands more added every week, our partners are in a prime position to support the transition to the cloud. To provide increased flexibility and choice for both customers and partners, we are announcing today the availability of several new Office 365 SKUs in the Open program.
Why is selling cloud solutions to customers so important? Today, Microsoft released a new study – conducted by IDC – on cloud profitability for partners. In talking with companies that generated more than 50 percent of their revenues from the cloud, IDC saw that these partners are growing at more than double the rate, accruing new customers 2.4 times faster and generating 1.3 times the revenues per employee compared to non-cloud-oriented partners. You can see the full report here.
Our growth in the cloud is built on a set of great enterprise services, and Microsoft’s Server & Tool (STB) Business President Satya Nadella delivered a keynote today focused on how we’re building new solutions and incentives to succeed together. Satya referenced that we are investing more than $100 million in a new program called Cloud OS Accelerate to put thousands of new private and hybrid cloud solutions into the hands of customers. He also announced a new offer, effective October 1, that provides Windows Intune device management at a 30 percent discount for customers who buy it as part of the Office 365 or CAL suite. Finally, he showed what happens when cloud meets big data. With the launch of Power BI for Office 365, partners will be able to bring powerful BI solutions to SMBs. You can read more about this, and other news from STB, here.
Of course, this really comes to life when our customers and partners deploy our cloud solutions in innovative ways that drive value. At WPC, we’re highlighting partners, such as Abecon, Abakion, Serenic and PrintVis, that are now successfully deploying Dynamics GP and Dynamics NAV in the cloud, via Windows Azure Infrastructure Services. We also announced new Global ISVs – IBIS (distribution and manufacturing); Incadea (automotive); Anglia Business Solutions (food and beverage) and the Escher Group (retail) – that have chosen Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 or Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for its modern architecture, flexibility and ease of use as the foundation for their custom solutions.
Devices, however, are what make the cloud come to life, and Windows COO and CFO Tami Reller shared
that Windows 8.1 RTM will be available for OEM partners in late August, along with Windows 8 momentum and partner-specific initiatives
, and TouchWins.
Finally, in my keynote, I announced Microsoft’s plans to provide Surface commercial availability to 28 countries by the end of Q1, and I expanded on Tami’s launch announcement of TouchWins, a new commercial channel incentive for featured Windows devices worldwide.
Built upon the “Get to Modern” marketing campaign that helps educate customers on migrating from Windows XP and Office 2003
, the TouchWins program will provide per-device incentives – up to $10 per Pro tablet -- to Authorized OEM Distributor and Reseller partners who sell featured PCs and tablets with Pro and Touch, including Surface Pro. Enrolled partners are able to join the program and participate immediately. We will be sharing more details on future enrollment later this summer. For now, you can read more about the program here.
It’s been a busy day already at WPC, and I hope you’re as excited as I am about the opportunities in devices and services ahead. We believe that together, with our partners, we are uniquely positioned to deliver great experiences to business customers.
